  • Pre loaded Tunes.

Ok i have had my Xcal 3 for a few days now. I am waiting on my custom tunes to be emailed to me.
My problem is the preloaded tunes on the X3. The first time i loaded a tune i must admit i was confused as i did not no what to load as all i saw was towing and stock. I loaded what i thought was a 87 tune and selected towing and changed the cold air intake to the other one that is not stock intake. i think it said LTI or LTF cai or something like that, but the Truck was running like stock and was gut less comparied to my Edge running level 2. Not impressed! So i returned it back to stock last night.
Well today i thought id give it another try! Loaded a tune and this time it was even worse. WTF? The truck was boging out and idling really low and would stall. You put your foot on the gas and it boged out and almost died. There was also a smell coming from the truck after only 2 km. Even the little wrench came on and said my truck need maintenance. I had to pull over and put it back to stock which fixed all the symptoms.
Can anybody out there help me with this? The users guide is very vague and does not go through all the menus to program the truck.
I have a 04 F150 FX4 5.4 3V new body style. I there somebody out there that could give me a step by step to program a 87 perf tune? sorry for asking to be spoon feed but im not having any kind of luck.

    Thanks in advance.
    Frustrated!

you do not want to change the CAI kit, unless you have the JLT cold air kit, on the vehicle.

I will get a tech to go through this and post a reply.

      Thanks Ryan,

I have a Air force 0ne cai on my truck! I would appreciate it if somebody could give me a step by step to the programing of the 87 tune as i cant see them.
My model comes up and it says 5.4 F150 which i select.
Ohh about the intake. i assumed i had to select the JLT cai as the only other option was a stock intake which i am not using now.

      Thanks.

Ok now im pissed! Well i have being running stock since this problem above with the X3. Well last night before i left work i put my truck back to level 2 on my edge. All was fine for about 2 -3 km.
I stopped at a stop light and when it went green i put my foot on the gas and wham!! It was like somebody took away half my power. It was almost like the tune in the X3 very boggy and noooo power. Plus the little wrench came on also just like the X3 tune did saying to service the truck!
Well i drove about another kilometer to a place where i could pull over. I put it back to stock and checked the code.
It was P2106. It said something about the throttle and less/half power. I'm pretty sure his code is right but it could be wrong as i was mad and did not pay a lot of attention to it as i was more concerned with getting the truck going and making it home. Any way i put it back to stock and drove home with no problems or lights coming on!!
Any SCT people here can help with this!
Has this X3 done something to my PCM now and i cant run my edge also?

          Really pissed!

            One word answer ... NO!

With that brings another question did the edge do something to make your x3 not work? I am going to say no to that also, but I know bully dog try before you buy for the diesels can cause some strange issues.

If the truck was returned to stock with your x3 then it messed up with your edge product, there is likely something different or something wrong with your truck. The fact that it doesn't do it stock leads me to believe the tune doesn't match the modifications. Is the truck stock.

I only have a 3" Air force one cold air intake on it. Everything else is stock.

OK i talked with Crystal from Troyer Performance and explained what happened with the X3 and my Edge. I told her it gave me a code P2106. She said that 9 times out of 10 it was the throttle body and not the TPS.
She said that i need to replace it because the TPS cant read throttle opening because the power the tuners make, open the throttle valve so fast that the TPS cant read its position giving the code P2106.
